Your News Guildford Ladies give it a 'try' day

Guildford Giants are holding a ladies rugby league Try It day on Saturday 9th July at Surrey Sports Park.

The Giants are aiming to create a ladies team to enter a merit league next season and are currently recruiting new players to give rugby league a try.

The Try It day gives local ladies and girls an opportunity to see what the sport is about, meet the team and give it a go.

Open to ladies 16 years and over, it is supported by the Rugby League Development team, and ladies teams from Hemel and Southampton will be attending to give the girls a chance to play against other sides.

"The Rugby Football League (RFL) is committed to the development of the ladies game and have started to make great progress with new teams playing in London and the South East in 2011. The enthusiasm of clubs like Southampton, Hemel and more recently Guildford Giants is a testament to volunteers in the South and the more clubs we have supporting the female game the stronger the competition said Ebony Blake, RFL South East Development Officer and regional lead for the female game.

I think that Guildford Giants Women's Rugby League Try It day is another great step in the female game and I am sure that all involved will have a great experience."

The event will be a curtain raiser before the Guildford Giants play Southampton in the League, and followed by a club social. The ladies currently train alongside the mens team on Thursday evenings at Surrey Sports Park.
