James Short, a former Sevenoaks junior rugby player, left the club aged 16 to join the Saracens Academy and has been capped for England at U16 and U20. Now, at the age of 21, in his 'breakthrough' season on the wing for Saracens, he has become the club's top try scorer, capping this by being the only try scorer in their Aviva Premiership Final victory against Leicester on Saturday.

Saracens put in an outstanding 'team performance' and their defence throughout was second to none, especially in the epic final minutes when Leicester camped out close to the Saracens try line for more than 30 phases, but the Men in Black’s resolute defence held out before Leicester were penalised for holding on at a ruck which bought a well-earned victory for Saracens.

Every member of the team deserved the 'Man of the Match' award, with a particularly outstanding performance by hooker Schalk Brits who was rightly awarded Man of the Match. It was his off-load that released powerful winger James Short to score the only try of the game. All other points scored for Saracens came from the boot of fly half Owen Farrell, who was also outstanding on the day.

James is now setting his sights on a full England shirt and to be an integral part of the England Squad for the World Cup in 2015. All at Sevenoaks RFC wish him success in achieving his ultimate goal in the great game.

Overseas player support

In order to bolster our playing squad and help with junior coaching on Sundays, we are once again looking at recruiting an overseas player for the coming season, something we have done successfully many times in the past. This would be a strictly non-paying arrangement, so we would need to find a job and accommodation for any such overseas player.

If you think you might be in a position to help with either of these, please let me know on 07949-027103 or lee7oaks@hotmail.com. In particular, if you have your own business or are in a position to influence employment, that would be a great help.

Please be assured we are not looking for firm offers at this stage, just an indication that you might be able to help. In due course, any potential recruit would be expected to send a CV and go through all the normal checks.
