Your News London South Africa 29 - Bognor 3

The eagerly anticipated first home game of the season for London South Africa did not disappoint. On Saturday 20 September the Club came face to face with Bognor’s first team. Unbeaten from the London 4 South East league last year Bognor was to be the perfect match for LSA – both teams newly promoted and hoping to kick start the season with a strong performance.

The first half got underway with a penalty given to the visitors which they converted into 3 quick points. Not to be deterred LSA fought back in some very evenly matched scrums with excellent defense work. The relentless pressure on Bognor paid off for LSA only 12 minutes in, with the first try from a maul on the Bognor tryline.

LSA played a very opportunistic game, capitalizing on errors from the visitors, adding a further penalty in the 35th minute. At the break the score line of 8 – 3 in LSA’s favour attested to a very tight game with no margin for error.

The second half saw LSA playing an expansive game, creating numerous attacking opportunities. An opening try and conversion in the 15th minute was all they needed. At the re-start the team looked strong placing consistent pressure on an ever-tiring Bognor squad. With only 10 minutes to go the game kicked into high gear and LSA scored two more consecutive converted tries - the nail in the coffin for Bognor. At the final whistle the full time score 29 – 3 to the boys in green and gold reflected the true fighting spirit of the Club with an inspired performance against Bognor on home turf.

Team Manager Trevor Johnson said that the result was good for the Club and stood as a testament “…to the players’ and coaches’ hard work and determination in the last few weeks”.
