I missed the first half, electing to watch the first half of the Yeomen XV playing Crawley I and so arrived - courtesy of the slowest Taxi driver in the world just after half time.

According to reports, the first half saw Hove score a try through Jack Maybanks (two weeks running now)which was converted by Sam Whiting. Sam also added two penalties to both his own personal and the greater Hove account, before Lewes pulled a try back after some sloppy defending. That solitary Lewes try was augmented by the conversion and also a penalty kick from some distance.

The second half started and saw the arrival of your correspondent just to see Tom Howells go over for a try only for referee Mitchell to rule that there had been a transgression and for the points to be wiped from the scoremaster's card.

Not to be treated in such a fashion, Tom made ready his armoury and upon receiving the ball out wide thundered through an ineffective defence - flapping like washing in the breeze - to touch down in the corner. Sadly, the extra two points evaded the sniper's boot of young Sam by a measurement only capable of being adjudged by a micrometer. And thus proceedings were brought to a halt by the Secretary of the SSRFUR for Hove to claim a well deserved victory and for Lewes to worry about their visit next week to OE's (who continued their Blitzkrieg with a demolition away at Lordswood by 28-0!).

Hove were boosted this week by the return of Adam Phillips who showed his customary deft touches and (again as usual) had the Lewes team (and the spectators) guessing as to what was next on his personal menu. Coupled with the return of Adam from the Red Bull extravaganza, Tom Howells also returned (from the same excursion) and proved just what a force he is in the backs. Welcome back both - even though we will miss you next week - and lets get the team firing on all cylinders. An excellent victory.
