The charities Help for Heroes and Heroes Haven will share a massive Ł5200 as a result of a fund raising day at Swanage and Wareham Rugby Club on 30 April. Swans President John Burgess paid tribute to all who contributed to a successful day. He said “ This is the first time we have held a day such as this and I feel proud of our club and what we have achieved for charities that have helped so many service people. It was a great family day out as well as a feast of good rugby.”

There were three matches with Oaks Under 14s beating the home side in the opener. The Dorset and Wilts 2nd team cup final was a keenly contested affair with Bournemouth running out narrow winners over Swans. The main event saw Swans President’s XV beating a Bovington Garrison XV by 37-17.

After the match Wareham Mayor, Councillor Eric Osmond, presented the Peter Hicks Heroes Trophy to Swans Captain Phil Graves and paid tribute to both teams and the club for the entertainment they had provided for such worthy causes. Colonel David Swann, Commander of Bovington Garrison accompanied the Mayor.

Swans Chairman Steve Orchard thanked all those who had sponsored the event by providing raffle prizes, donating funds and equipment and by giving their time voluntarily. He said “ We have set high standards today. Now the challenge will be to do even better, perhaps next year.
