Your News Swans lose out to Salisbury

Swans were unfortunate to travel away to Salisbury without several of their established players due in part to injuries received from last weeks game against Abbey and the wedding arrangements of outstanding back row forward Maurice Elford and his now wife Jo. However, several of the replacement players put in good performances and were unlucky just to lose by two scores.

The game got off to a fiery start and after just 8 minutes a front row flair up had Swans’ Ollie Andrews and Salisbury’s prop Phil Sutton yellow carded for the confrontation. Swans had much of the possession in the first twenty minutes, and were pressing the Salisbury line, but handling mistakes were the cause of many of the breakdowns before the Salisbury line. Swans centre Mike Cottrell was a thorn in the Salisbury defence, and full back Paul Dunsford made a couple of breaks down the right. A mistake from Swans had Salisbury breaking clear, and a pass to outstanding centre Christian Metson, easily Salisbury’s best player, scoring close to the posts. Liam Gilbert added the conversion 7 – 0 to the home side after 24 minutes. Three minutes later Salisbury’s fly half was sin-binned for stamping, but Swans could not benefit from the one- man advantage, despite attacking constantly, with Phil Graves missing with a penalty attempt. Just before the interval Swans second row Ryan Cottrell was yellow carded and Liam Gilbert missed from the resulting penalty kick.

In the second half Salisbury had much more of the play, but Swans had their fair share of the possession, but could not penetrate the home team’s defence. The game seemed to be drifting towards the middle of the half, but after a brief period of attacking play by Salisbury, once again Metson broke clear to score his second try of the game after 68 minutes. Liam Gilbert added the extras to leave the final score at Salisbury 14pts Swans 0pts.
