Your News Youth rugby finals offer rich prospect

FLEETWOOD RUFC will be the venue for a full afternoon of top-class youth rugby union on Sunday (May 1, 2011), when the club stages the annual Lancashire Colts Cup Finals Day.

Some of the best Under 17, 18 and 19 players in the Red Rose county will be contesting the three age groups starting at 12 noon with the Under 17 finals for the RTJ "Rob" Briers Cup, in which Southport will take on Manchester.

That will be followed at 2pm by the Under 18 final, when Bury and Leigh will meet in the Joe McDonough Cup final, while the final offering of the afternoon will start at 4pm and will feature Under 19 teams from Widnes and Sefton who have meet in the Frank Morgan Cup final.

On Sunday week (May 8) the focus switches to a quartet of trans-Pennine games, when champion Colts teams from Yorkshire will take on their counterparts from the North West at Huddersfield RUFCs Lockwood Park headquarters.

The programme is launched with the Raging Bull "Cock-o-the-North" Challenge Bowl in which Old Brodleians from Halifax will take on Warrington and continues with the Challenge Trophy which features Wheatley Hills from Doncaster and Fleetwood.

Host club Huddersfield will contest the Challenge Vase against Caldy from The Wirral, which the final match in the programme will be the Challenge Cup, in which Sheffield will face Lymm.
