Your News Frome 2XV 24 - Weymouth 36

WEYMOUTH captain Tony Worle hailed his side's opening day victory at Frome II in what he felt was a potential "banana skin".

The Seasiders are second in Dorset & Wilts One South after the first round of fixtures and despite not playing to their best, picked up the valuable two points at Frome.

Worle said: "We started pretty well, were ahead from the fifth minute and were always two scores ahead. But bizarrely we came off the pitch feeling a bit disappointed.

"We were good in attack but we let in four tries, three of which were very soft so we've got something to work on in training.

"Frome are a big strong bunch of lads and they'll cause much trouble to teams this year.

"I'm glad that we've got this one out of the way because it's a banana skin for any side.

"The fact that we won but feel disappointed in aspects of how we played is indicative of how much we have come on as a team.

"We've had the best preparation to the season possible and I'm just really pleased that we've hit the ground running."

Tim Peplow opened the scoring for the visitors after charging down a Frome kick, touching down and then converting his own try.

Adam Hoxey crossed the line next, beating two opponents for pace before crashing down in the corner for an unconverted try.

Weymouth's third and fourth tries arrived courtesy of Mark Sample and Craig Gelderd.

Sam Polley and debutant Stuart White were next to register as they profited from good support play to cross the opposing try-line.

Polley also added two conversions to make up the Seasiders' tally of 36.
