COACH David Dunn breathed a massive sigh of relief after revealing wing wizard Sam Yarwood should be fit for Lions’ huge National League play-off clash later this month.

Yarwood was stretchered off during Lions’ comfortable 47-10 Dorset & Wilts Cup triumph over Swanage & Wareham on Sunday, with fears the record-breaking Chapel Gate try-scorer could have broken an ankle.

But X-rays yesterday revealed no broken bones, with Dunn confident his star man would be ready to face either Barnes or Hertford in the play-off.

Yarwood scored Lions’ second try at Dorchester RFC on Sunday, before being replaced by debutant Dan Mallard just before the hour mark.

Dunn, who also saw Dan Connelly (3), Michael Pope, Karim Lynch and Jack Hennings dive over, told the Echo: “We had our fingers crossed for Sam and it looks like he will be out for around two weeks with intensive treatment. There was lots of swelling so we weren’t sure, but he let me know that nothing was broken yesterday.

“He has time and the initial outlook is good.”

Conversions from Simon McFarlane and Scott Chislett helped Lions to a fourth straight Dorset & Wilts Cup triumph, while McFarlane also slotted over two penalties.

Pope, meanwhile, marked his first Lions appearance of the season with a try, the young Exeter Chiefs scrum-half taking advantage of his dual registration with the Chapel Gate club.

Darren Wilcox scored Swans’ only try after 11 minutes, while Phil Graves added one penalty and one conversion.

• Oakmeadians crashed to a 32-15 defeat at Witney in South West One East and remain second from bottom in the league standings.
