Not the start to the season that the Seasiders wanted, but coach Barry Ross Mackenzie was not too critical of his young charges.

He said: “Considering the strength of the side that we had out against an experienced team who have played at a higher level of rugby we didn’t do too badly”.

“Although we arrived early and had ample time to warm up we conceded 10 early points and then on had to chase the game. We failed to break through their defence, but it was not for the lack effort of trying”.

“In fact we had them under pressure for a large proportion of the second half, but it only resulted in a penalty from Ryan Lewendon”.

“Then at the death when we were getting desperate we lost possession of the ball close to our own line, they touched down and converted to give the score line a reflection that does not do justice to the efforts that the lads produced”.
