Yarnbury kept up the pressure on the top spot with their 11th consecutive win of the season in YRFU League 2 with a 23 points to 12 win at Horsforth on Saturday.

Substitute wing forward and ex Captain Wayne Butterfield is seen expressing his delight at scoring the final try for Yarnbury in this latest of six local derbies in this crowded league. The other try for Yarnbury was scored by Jason Avison from the centre spot after a chase and fumble by Moortown wing Nick Moyles.Three penalties from Yarnbury Stand Off Ian Bartlett back for his first showing in this key position and two conversions saw The Horsforth men home for their tenth consecutive win against the local opposition who saw a try from centre Andy Eastham from close range and a concersion from centre Mark Shires keep Moortown in the game with a spirited defensive display.

For Yarnbury second row Ian Maycock was the man of the match winning countless clean line out ball and ripping out in the loose was a constant threat to the opposition.Yarnbury spurned numerous chances with the ball in the backs with indecisive passing or over complication and when they broke free of the Moortown defence on several occasions lack of direct running stopped certain tries on at least two occasions.

Resting Carl Patterson from stand off meant his ever present record has gone and also prop Andy Butterfield with a dead leg meant the showing was just enough but forgoing the bonus point in a tight league is credit to the dogged determination of yet another local competitor.

Yarnbury have to visit the top of the league next week in a must win re-arranged game without several key players so exiting times ahead until the end of the season!
