Your News Seghill Deputies 64 - Rockcliffe 3XV 5

With Rockcliffe struggling for players, Seghill loaned them several players and substitutes for the game to go ahead.

What resulted was a terrific game of rugby, played in a friendly, yet still competitive fashion, with both sides leaving the field at the end of the game with smiles on their faces, despite the one-sided appearance of the scorecard.

Although Seghill dominated the game, Rockcliffe pressed throughout, looking for tries themselves, and were close on several ocassions.

Liam Lonsdale started the try scoring for Seghill, with two tries in the opening fifteen minutes. David Norris and James Goodwin, on as substitute for Lonsdale at half time, both scored two tries each. Gordon Bailey, Paul Thompson, John Dugan and Joseph McLean also got tries for Seghill. McLean recorded a points haul of 19, by sucessfully kicking 7 of the eight conversions he took.

The tally of tackles made by Rockliffe was huge, with many of the Seghill lads who were deputising for Rockcliffe delighting in tackling their usual team mates!!! George Hogg's tackles on his dad Chris, and on Frazer Hill were outstanding, while Nick Heard delighted in stopping David Norris scoring a third try, and also Matthew Sherman short of the line too.

For all their effort, Rockcliffe deservedly got a consolation try in the 78 minute, Dean Howe going over in the corner. He was unlucky with his conversion attempt, which hit the post.

The two sides produced a wonderfully, entertaining game for the spectators - who were cheering on both sides.
