Yatton Scorers - Tries N Spellissy, C Harris Cons N Raymond 2 Pens N Raymond

‘Yatton key positions line-up changes again’.

With Thornbury playing at home and riding high in the table looking to reach the dizzy heights of South West One, where Yatton had been for the previous three seasons, it was always going to be a tough one for the visitors constantly changing team.

The home side kicked off with the advantage of the ski slope knowing that they needed a commanding lead by half time. The plan worked and by the end of the first 20 minutes Thornbury were two tries up with a third minutes later, meanwhile Nic Raymond had slotted away two penalty conversions for Yatton, but Thornbury’s bonus try came on the halftime whistle at 26-6.

Yatton were now looking down the nursery slope but had to wonder if it was possible to climb the points hill they were against. The law of probabilities being what it is resulted in the early minutes, after the restart, seeing another Thornbury try forging them even further ahead.

But dogged Yatton hit back, salvaging some pride, with converted tries from both Nic Spellissy and Chris Harris in quick succession.

Thornbury rounded off a satisfactory display in front of their jubilant home crowd with another two tries, the last coming with the final play.

This Saturday Yatton’s 1st XV have 3rd in the league Barton Hill, who will be ‘smarting’ from their home defeat last Saturday against 4th placed Gloucester side Old Centralians.

The 2nd XV travel to Bristol Barbarians and the 3rd XV hope that this Saturdays fixture away against Imperial 2nds takes place.
