Your News Dorchester chairman looking forward to the new challenge

New Senior Club Chairman, Martyn Raper, talks about his hopes and aspirations for the season ahead: “Relegation at the end of last season was a blow to Dorchester RFC, not made any more palatable by our terrific win over high flying Oakmedians on our last game. However, we have to accept where we are and get on with the job ahead of us. Our aim is to try and get out of Dorset & Wilts One at the first attempt, but this could prove to be easier said than done, as we know that our opponents, especially our local rivals, will see Dorchester as a ‘prize scalp’ and will raise their games accordingly. We are under no illusions that if we become complacent we will get turned over!

I am encouraged that we have managed to retain the entire first team squad from last season, boosted by the return of key players from long term injury and a whole crop of promising youngsters who will be pushing for starting places in the first fifteen. This blend of youth and experience should put is in good stead for the games ahead and I am confident that we will win more games than we will lose.

Our league campaign starts on 13th September with a home game against Bridport, managed by former player and coach, Paul Nimmin, which adds a little extra spice to this fixture. This is a’ must win’ game for Dorchester if we are to send out a strong message to the rest of the league, however, I am sure that Paul and his team will be equally keen to get a result and it should be a cracking game for the expected large crowd to enjoy.

This is a new era for Dorchester Rugby Club and we look forward to the challenge with relish.”
