In the summer of 1958, a group of businessmen who were associated with the town of Newton Aycliffe had a dream. They were keen rugby players and supporters and, with a lot of dedication and committed hard work, formed what we now know as Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club.

Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club is entering its 50th Anniversary year during the 2008-2009 Season and will be celebrating with several events throughout the coming season. The first event is a pre-season tournament. This will be contested between Darlington RFC, Sunderland RFC and Newton Aycliffe RFC and is to be held at Newton Aycliffe Sports Club, Moore Lane, Newton Aycliffe on Sunday 24th August 2008.

Over the course of the last 49 years, Newton Aycliffe has been successful in both League and Cup Competitions but has struggled somewhat in recent times due to reduced player numbers and shortages in key front row positions. With a growing group of young players, this year will see NARUFC competing in the Durham Junior League again, where we have had a mixture of fortunes, finishing 3rd last season. The club will be looking to mount a serious challenge and better that position in the coming season, with the aim of rejoining the League pyramid. The support from all our sponsors, gives us a huge boost towards that aim and their good links with the local community can only benefit the town’s ONLY rugby side.

Newton Aycliffe Rugby Club has an open door policy where players of all ages & ability are welcome as we are firm believers in that Rugby is not just about winning but about team building as well. We have a thriving social scene with regular events and social gatherings that build a character and self belief rarely found in other sports. The current squad ranges from 18 to 50+ years old with some having played all their lives and some just beginning.

If you would like more information on the club and its impending season’s events, training, and matches then you can visit our website at www.ayclifferugby.co.uk for all contact details.

Newton Aycliffe RUFC would like to thank this season’s sponsors Aston Hotels and ServiceForce for their generous support of the towns only Rugby Club
