A lethargic first half performance, and an inspired display by Bedworth,
culminated in Pershore losing the match by half time. For all Pershores
attempts at being competitive in the first half, they were put to the
sword by a rampant Bedworth team, whos back row, and in particular their
No8 , consistently drove through the heart of the Pershore pack, making
the hard yards, and forcing Pershore always on to the back foot. It was
not long before a stern defence was broken, and Bedworth ran in some
good first half tries. In fact so dominant was their performance, that
they led 32 - 0 at half time. Much to Pershores credit though, as heads
could have gone down, they fought back well in the second half.
Eventually they gained parity up front, and their big ball carriers
started to take the ball on, putting together several phases of play,
with Marcus Whyte eventually crashing over. From the kick off, quick
hands in the backs, and a sniping run from Adrian Hanson, breached the
Bedworth defence , and Steff Ellis touched down, Woodhouse converting.
With Pershore attacking at every opportunity, their efforts were further
rewarded when from a lineout Marcus Whyte brushed off two defenders to
complete his double. With the first half now a distant memory, Pershore
gained their bonus point, when skipper Alex Peel crossed the whitewash,
after a succession of rucks on the Bedworth line. However, Bedworth
finished off the match as a contest when they touched down twice in the
last five minutes, after Pershores second half efforts had led to a
tired, and stretched defence.
