Your News Minchinhampton 14 - Cheltenham Saracens 2XV 22

Minchinhampton Rams hosted Cheltenham Saracens 2nds and the visitors struck first to strike with incisive running from their fledgling wingers, to leave the Rams trailing by 7 after 15 minutes. A good spell of Minch defence followed with great tackling from flanker Dan Tedham and fullback Phil Moorsom and Minch began to make inroads into the Saracens half with some strong running from Tony Richmond and Alan Halling. However, Saracens dominance in the set pieces enabled them to score again a second try, this time unconverted.

The second half saw the Rams burst into life and the backs, including the returning Jim Oatley, began to break the game line, soon rewarded as flyhalf Jake Muskett went over to score Minch’s first points of the day and converted his own try. Minch’s had the Saracens on the run with some brilliant off-the-cuff rugby, and their pressure paid off with 15 minutes with Halling going over to score a great try and Muskett added the extras.

With Minch leading, Saracens responded with a penalty resulting from Minch’s ill discipline but ultimately Minch’s determination to run the ball at every opportunity proved their downfall, as an intercepted pass in their own 22 left led to a deciding try under the posts for Saracens. The Rams were left to rue their slow start but could be enthused by their response in the second half and some entertaining running rugby.
