Your News Isle of Man school eye Rugby School outing

A TRIP to through the pages of rugby union history to the very first entry and with it the chance to play at the most famous stadium in the game will be the incentive for nine school teams from the Isle of Man when they meet in the regional final of the English National Yazoo Tag 2 Twickenham Finals to be held at the National Sports Centre in Douglas on December 1, 2010.

The winner of the final not only receives the Scottish Widows National Primary School Tag Rugby Trophy, but also has the chance to take on the best junior tag rugby teams in the country in the Zazoo Tag2Twickenham national finals on The Close at Rugby School, where William Webb Ellis famously picked up the ball to create the game of rugby.

Finalists at Rugby School will then enjoy the added bonus of playing at Twickenham before an International match.

With those incentives to spur the on, Ballacottier, St. Marys, Buchan A and B, St. Johns, Kewaigue, Victoria Road and Ree Gorree A and B teams will have ample incentive to produce their best in Douglas.

With all teams showing a very high standard of skill, the outcome of the final is very difficult to predict, as one of the regional finals between two Ree Gorree teams underlined, the B team edging home 4-3 after an excellent match.

The standard of rugby on display in all the regions bodes well for a very exciting final. says Rugby Development Officer Ian Williams: With the final involving nine teams the format for the competition will be three pools of three teams. The winner from each pool and the best overall runner-up will then compete in the semi-finals, with the other teams playing for the places from 5 to 9.

It is going to be very hard to predict the winner of the finals with all of the teams playing excellent Rugby on their day.
