Friday 25th and Saturday 26th July sees the return of the annual Beer Festival to Market Deeping. Organised by The Deepings Rugby Club it will be staged, as in the past, in a large marquee outside the clubhouse on the Leisure Centre Field in Linchfield Road, Market Deeping (PE6 8EP for anyone with a SatNav).

On offer will be up to 30 real ales and ciders from across the UK and a special ale from local brewery Hopshackle.

Lee Coupland, the Deepings RUFC Clubhouse Manager says “We have taken note of the drinkers’ comments from last year and are being more selective with the various brews offered this time around. We will have a wide selection from around the country including many past favourites and also a couple of local offerings including a drop or two from the Market Deeping based, Hopshackle brewery”.

Carole Langton, the club’s Social Secretary, added that “Last year we took the step to grow the festival, now in it’s 5th year and introduced live music on the Saturday evening. The response was so great that there will be live music from local groups on both nights.”

Carole has also added a bit more for the family this year. “This really is not a rugby club event, we try hard where we can to get involved locally and we want this to be the Deepings Beer Fest, families are welcome all weekend and there will be entertainment for the children on Saturday afternoon and for the adults by way of the Deepings Tug’o’War Tournament open to all local pubs, clubs or just groups of friends, read on for more information – so all the family is welcome”.

This year’s event will kick off at 5pm on the Friday with the music starting about 8pm and the bars re-open at 12:00 midday on Saturday for rides and games and a pint or two of real ale. The only change is that with regards to the neighbours, the bar will not be open on Sunday this year.

At this years’ Deepings Beer Festival we are also holding the Deepings Tug’o’War Tournament, teams of eight will compete to decide who has the ultimate pulling power. If you have what it takes then read on for details to enter your team.

Tug of war is a unique team sport, where the team work requires all team members to do the same thing. A Tug of War team consists of eight pullers plus a coach. The highlight of any tug of war is the clash of sheer power between the two teams. As the Athletes seek an optimal foothold in the ground by digging in their heels and, using that as their pivot, pull the rope with all the strength they're capable of mustering.

There is an entry cost of £10 per team, £1.11p per member from which a donation to charity will be made. If you would like to register a team in the Deepings 2008 Tug’o’War Tournament, or for any further information about the Beer Festival or Rugby in the Deepings then please email club@deepingsrufc.co.uk
