Yatton Scorers - Tries M Harris, Garnham, Bale; Cons 3 Bale; Pens 3 Bale

Points nicely Baledup in Autumn sunshine first away win

Travellers Yatton were first on the scoreboard thanks to scrum-half Nic Garnhams individual try from a chip over and dribble, after a solid scrum inside the oppositions 22. Jon Bales kick dissected the uprights from far out.

After that try on the 10 minute mark the sides battled it out for clean possession in mid-field. Yattons superior scrummaging gave them plenty of opportunity at Strouds try line but without reward, thanks to old heads and short-sightedness.

Bale stroked over a penalty on 35 minutes in the bright autumn sunshine and windless day. But from the restart Dan Gordon did likewise for the home side and within minutes wing Nic Walker was left free to touchdown after Strouds breakout from just outside their own 22 area.

First half injury-time finished with Yatton on Strouds try line but unable to change the score from 8-10.

Immediately after the break Stroud upped the pressure and increased their tempo but Yatton managed to soak it up until the 50th minute when stand-off Nic Raymonds midfield break allowed skipper Mike Harris to give Bale an easy try conversion in front of the posts.

During the mid second half period two more penalties kept up Bales 100% record and gave Stroud an uphill battle, but battle on they did and created chances.

At 80 minutes full back Bale followed up to do the honours for Garnham who had broke blind-side thanks to replacement No8 G T Walters pass from the base of a scrum. Bale converted his own try finishing Yattons first away win of the season and clocking up a satisfactory team score of a nicely comfortable 30 points to 8 in reply.

This coming Saturday most of Yattons 1st XV are off on a wedding commitment while the 2nds are scheduled to meet Bristol Saracens 2nds at home in a friendly. Meanwhile pride of place goes to Yattons 3rd XV who have a league encounter also against Bristol Saracens also at home ( luckily Gavin Henson will not be playing that day for the visitors).

Yatton 3rd XV vs Clevedon 3rd XV

Yatton Scorers - Braine, Serman.

A game of two halves and a slender local derby loss for the 3rds

This was a typically hard fought local derby with very occasionally some fun rugby, if you could spot it.

All the elements of this encounter brought out an excellent game from both sides.

From the offset it was Yatton who were dominant in most aspects and first points were gained from a penalty conversion.

Yatton forged head with a try a piece for Stuart Braine and Neil Serman without reply from shell shocked Clevedon.

The match then became fiercely contended with neither side being prepared to give way.

During the second half the local visitors began to play to their strength which was within the pack. Yatton defended bravely but conceded to three well worked tries.

Yatton were unlucky not to have scored in the dying minutes and so Clevedon walked home with the league spoils after a big sigh of relief.

This coming Saturday Yattons 3rd XV is their only team to be staging a league encounter and its at home against Bristol Saracens (luckily Gavin Henson will not be playing that day for the visitors).
