The little girl’s name is Martha Sell, age 3 and a member of Yatton Rugby Club as is the boy Ollie Harris, also age 3.

Ollie is giving Martha 100 crocus bulbs which marks the 15,000th planted so far out of the village’s target of 40,000.

Yatton and District (North Somerset) has a population of just under 10,000. The intention is to raise enough money to be able to immunise 10,000 babies against Polio.

Villagers are being asked to ‘pick their own’ roadside square metre plot and plant 100 bulbs, in whatever pattern they like, in exchange for a donation of £5-£10

40,000 crocuses will produce the biggest Village Splash of one colour in the whole of the UK, just after Valentine’s Day next February
