Your News Weymouth 38 - Warminster 17

NEW signing Les Moon came off the bench and eclipsed Warminster with a stunning hat-trick of tries as Wey-mouth collected their first win of the season in Dorset & Wilts One South at Monmouth Avenue.

The visitors could not live with the ex-Lytchett Minster skippers turn of speed, although they did cause the Seasiders some alarm midway through the second half when they closed to within two points.

Weymouth played against a strong diagonal wind in the first period but still spent most of it in the visitors half with a hat-trick of penalties from Ryan Llewendon putting them into a 9-0 lead.

Had it not been for poor decision making and handling errors, the Seasiders would have been in front by more and they paid the price just before half-time when Warminster grabbed a try.

That score made it 9-5 at the break but at the start of the second half Rich Polley broke off a scrum and touched down to put Weymouth back in control. Llewendon then added the conversion but back came the visitors again with a stunning 15-minute spell, which saw them rewarded with two successful penalties and a drop goal to pull back to 16-14.

Weymouth looked stunned but the introduction of Moon soon had them heading in the right direction again as he crossed the whitewash to stretch the lead to 21-14.

Warminster again replied with a penalty before the Seasiders then ran riot in the closing stages.

Moon crossed for a second time after a successful maul on the away sides 22, and with Llewendon again converting, the visitors resilience finally faltered.

Adam Hoxey increased the lead even further with a solo try before another superb passing movement saw Moon secure his hat-trick seconds before full-time.

Weymouth team manager Des Quick said: We had to field a much-changed side for one reason or another, and it was not until towards the end that it finally clicked together.

In the first half, we did not seem to have any finishers out there and there is no doubt that Les had a big impact for us when he came on.

He is quite fiery and a bit of a terrier, and Warminster just could not live with him.

Weymouth: Hughes, Wood, Llewendon, Hoxey, Allen (Moon), Peplow, Barter, Comben (Driver), Puroku, Hurrell, Gibson, Leatham (Westwood), Sample, Carter, Polley.
