Your News Sevenoaks 3rd XV Collect their trophy

The annual Kent County rugby dinner at the St Lawrence Cricket Ground saw proud Sevenoaks 3rd XV captain Jim Monks collect his sides winners plaque for their victorious season in the Mid Kent and East Sussex League A.

In a tough league, Sevenoaks 3rds finished four points clear of rivals Aylesford. They won 18 and lost just four of their 22 league games, scoring 524 points in the process and conceding just 193. They scored more than 40 points on six occasions and, in 14 games, conceded fewer than 10.

Monks puts his sides success down to a combination of a strong team spirit and a hard core of quality players who were willing to commit to the team every week. The squad had a fine blend of youth and experience, with four players over 40 years old and three under 18s figuring in the side.

It was great to have coach Roger McKerlie and player/manager Bryan Phillips to help me share the burden of organising and preparing the team, and their input often helped us gain the edge in some of the tougher matches, said Monks.

Monks (centre) collected the plaque with Phillips (left) and lock Tim Bampton, who made the highest number of appearances in the team.

Club Chairman Lee Adamson said We are all delighted for and proud of Jim and the boys, who certainly gave us something to cheer about. Im hoping next years captain, Will Rosier, will be able to keep the magic going and mount a successful defence of the title.
