England Head Coach Gary Street has named a strong squad of 22, which includes 741 caps, for Wednesday’s Women’s Rugby World Cup semi final against Australia at the Twickenham Stoop, kick off 8.15pm.
England head into the final four showdown as top seeds after winning all three pool games with a bonus points, while Australia qualify as best runner-up from the pool stages.
Street has made three changes in the backs with Alice Richardson, Fiona Pocock and Amy Turner all being given the nod to start, while up front Heather Fisher returns in the backrow and Rosemarie Crowley starts at tight head prop. No 8 Catherine Spencer will again captain England.
Street, whose side booked their place in the semi finals after wins over Ireland, Kazakhstan and the USA, said: “This is a huge game and as such we have picked an extremely experienced side to take on the Australian challenge. It’s certainly going to be exciting to play at the Stoop and we are hoping to have the same great support that we have enjoyed at the Surrey Sports Park.
“The Australian England rivalry is great in every sporting contest and I am sure it will be no different on Wednesday. This is going to be a tough semi final and we won’t be taking anything for granted. There are definitely no easy games in a world cup semi final.”
In the other semi final reigning world champions New Zealand take on France at the Stoop, kick off 6pm.
