Your News Peterborough U16 29 - Deepings U16 5

Deepings had a fierce east wind in their favour for the first half of this game but failed to use it to their advantage.

They had the bulk of the possession but in spite of a sparkling run from Chris Day the game revolved around a grim mid field slogging match with Deepings newcomer Tom Williams showing his skill and grit. Peterborough eventually took the initiative and narrowly failed to score with a held up ball.

However they were not to be denied and scored two quick tries before the half time whistle.

The second half had the wind behind Peterborough and they made full use of this by booting the ball into the Deepings half and keeping it there.

Deepings were forced into a desperate defensive struggle and steadily conceded points.

Tim Shilling made an inspired run but was stopped short of the line and Levan Stapleton was unlucky in missing a try opportunity.

Unfortunately Deepings could not turn the game and two break away Peterborough tries sealed their fate.

However they never lost their spirit and played 100% till the end of the game and were rewarded with a spirited consolation try scored by Dan Young.

Deepings man of the match: Tom Williams
