Across the evening of Friday 21st and all day on the 22nd June 2013, Wallingford Ruby Club will be hosting Oxfordshire’s ultimate family-friendly festival. Now in its fifth year, this ever expanding grassroots festival offers fans the very best musical talent from across the country, tonnes of activities for kids and a superb range of beverages and cuisine.
Rugfest’s unique atmosphere is created largely by the impressive array of musical talent on display. This year is no exception, there really is something for everyone and confirmed acts include: Hope and Glory, Kitten and the Hip, Lem and the white fire, Quadrophobe, The Lucky Strikes, The Fallows, Felix Fables and the Unusual Suspects. So if electro- pop, ska, Americana, folk rock, rock and roll or soul pop is not your thing we are sure we will have something to suit – the event is run by Wallingford RFC; so the fabulous Big Tackle from Weybridge Vandals RFC are an added delight; but as dance is this year’s theme we have added The Police Academy to our Line up – This local group are a superb authentic Police tribute band who brilliantly recreate and reproduce some of the best known songs ever written.
And if that is not enough to wet your musical appetite – Wallingford is going Bollywood !! On Saturday night we play host to RSVP Bhangra the UK’s Number one festival bhangra band; a mix of classic Indian music fused with the very latest in the global music scene. The performances are a complete entertainment experience, so don’t be surprised to have some on-stage “stand up” comedy, band members jumping off stage and into the crowds, the crowds chanting Bhangra anthems and learning how to dance Bhangra style!!
Rugfest truly is a family event and little ones will be spoilt for choice this year. There’s everything from Trampolines to Jan’s Blackboard Van, Zorb Balls to an Arts and Crafts tent. It doesn’t stop there; Bouncy Castles, Bungee Runs, Blow up Boxing, high flying trampolines, Face Painting and, if they’re still standing, a 2 hour disco; just for kids!
Enjoy all this with a local tipple of your choice. Variety is the key with freshly made cocktails from the mixologists of Wallingford's Old Post Office, plus Loddon Ales – Cotswold Lagers and ciders from across the country. A variety of fresh and tasty hot food is available throughout the event, including our infamous Hog Roast as well as great Mexican and Chinese. Bungle’s Mum’s Emporium provides the tea, coffee and snacks and there’s our refreshing Ice Cream Parlour too.
