The London & South East Senior team has been named to meet the South West as this season's RFUW Divisional Programme makes a delayed start at Newbury RFC on Sunday (February 26).

Both teams will be looking to get their season off to a good start with the first matches two weeks ago having being postponed due to the cold weather.

London & South East will be captained by Saracens flanker Leah Morley, and the divisions Talent Identification Officer, Maggie Alphonsi, said: We are expecting a good game against the South West.

This fixture last season was a very tight match that ended in a draw.

The London and South East team has a good mix of players with three England U20s players lock Ellie Gatlin (Saracens and Hertfordshire), centre Hannah Edwards (Wasps and Middlesex) and full back Georgia Peedle (Saracens and Hertfordshire) returning to the starting line up.

The squad also includes Leanne Riley (Saracens and Hertfordshire) and Emily Scott (Thurrock and Essex) who were involved in the England Sevens side that reached the final of the inaugural Womens Sevens Challenge Cup at the Emirates Airline Dubai 7s in December.

For all the London & South East players it is a chance to impress as they seek to represent England Women in the future.

Players at Under 15, Under 18 and senior level can progress from club rugby to representing their county, their division and their country through the Rugby Football Union for Women Divisional Programme which forms an integral part of the RFUW Player Pathway.

Saracens flanker Hannah Gallagher made her debut for England Women this month in the 47-0 win in Scotland having progressed through the pathway programme.

Alphonsi also reported on the progress of the divisions Under 18 and U15 squads.

Last weekend we saw London and South East U15s get their divisional season off to a great start with a very good win against the South West which saw Jessica Breach score a hat trick. The final score was 52-17.

The U18s had a tough game against the South West which saw the South West pull away in the second half to win the game 38-19. The performances of both teams was fantastic and I was impressed with the standard of all of our players.
