The RFUW (Rugby Football Union for Women) South West Senior Womens line-up shows 13 newcomers to the squad when they kick-off their 2012 Divisional Programme campaign against the Midlands at Whitchurch RFC, Edgeley Road, Shropshire, this Sunday (Feb 12), 2pm kick-off.

The RFUW Divisional Programme forms an integral part of the RFUW Player Pathway, which can see players go from playing club rugby to representing their county. Current England stars who have qualified through this pathway include most recently Emily Braund, who got her first cap for England last weekend in the RBS 6 Nations against Scotland.

Players selected for the Divisional Programme have been selected by their Constituency Body and if they are successful could go on to try out for England, or qualify for the Under 18s and Under 15s RFUW National Talent Development Groups, which looks to develop the future talent of England Womens rugby.

Bristol scrum half Sian Moore is amongst the newcomers and will captain the side while prop Poppy Davies, hooker Clara Nielson, flanker Megan Oaten, No.8 Elizabeth Lennox, centre Jessica Irving and right wing Mary-Anne Gittings are also set to make their starting debuts.

All but Bristols Rebecca Hughes are also newcomers on the bench.

There is actually a squad of 30 players that, at some stage during the Divisional Programme, will all be involved, says Kevin Moggridge the South West RFUWs Divisional Talent Development Officer. And the Programme is a really important development tool as it forms part of the RFUW Player Pathway.

The womens game itself is developing in each of the South Wests Constituent Bodies and while Somerset and Gloucestershire players dominate this Sundays side others from Cornwall and Dorset & Wilts will feature later and it shows that the Player Pathway is working.

All of the South West squad got together for a strenuous workout last weekend at the Stother & Pitt club in Somerset and are in confident mood going into the 2012 Divisional Programme .

Moggridge adds: The Midlands are a strong side with quite of lot of players with England experience and on the Elite Player Pathway.

Itll be a really good test of the South West sides skills and thats what we are greatly looking forward too!
