Your News Haverhill 15 - Woodbridge Warriors 7

Woodbridge started with energy and pace against Haverhill in this plate qualifier. Gusting wind and muddy conditions made handling difficult but some good possession from Cooke at 8 and Yorke at 12 gave the visitors early advantage. Conceding penalties in their own 22 forced Haverhill to kick to clear and the visitors lineout gave Cooke the opportunity to drive close enough to feed Barton at 10 to score and convert.

Haverhills bigger pack seemed to cope with the slippery conditions better than Woodbridge and although much of the play stayed in the Haverhills half breaking runs from Potter posed regular threats and it wasnt long before the hosts broke left, stole a line-out and their scrum half Hope chipped over for winger Gibson to score.

Woodbridge squandered opportunities as the referee penalised Haverhill for ill-discipline but couldnt get traction against constant high ball. Haverhill went left again Potter and his front row taking another scrum against the head, drawing in the Woodbridge defence and driving hard only to spin it wide for the omnipresent Potter to touch down on the right. 10 -7 at half time

The home team started well, nearly scoring a breakaway try in the first 5 mins against poor covering across and some missed tackles. Woodbridge tried some new tactics, running clearance kicks back from deep and kicking centrally down field but all too often the quick ball was too quick, the chase was too slow and the tackles missed. Haverhills heavy pack, although tiring, maintained the pressure and repeatedly forced play back to their opponents 22 despite penalties and the soggy pitch. Eventually they were rewarded as they stole another line-out and drove second row Landsdown over. Woodbridge held on to the end against more of the same to end the match Haverhill 15 Woodbridge 7.
