he newly promoted Woodbridge Amazons travelled to Kent for their first match in a league just two below women's premiership.

It became clear from the off that the home team had considerable strength in depth (with 6 substitutes), size and evident fitness. Aylesford’s forwards rucked and harried to ensure good ball for their fast runners. Woodbridge were best at the scrum but quickly lost the benefit at ensuing breakdowns when a well-drilled Aylesford pack drove over against little opposition to reclaim the ball. In attack the Amazons usual strength in their centres was missing and they made little impact. The fitness gap was also clearly evident as Woodbridge were often slow to back up isolated players and lacked any committed tackling with the noticeable exception of Capt Rickard and No 8 Cotton. In all Aylesford ran in eight tries in the first half and six in the second with Schneider, Olliver and Verevialu all scoring well. Kicker Philp also made eight out of fourteen which built on the deserved score line and served notice on the Amazons to redouble training efforts if they are to hold their place in this league.
