Your News Hartlepool BBOB 35 - Seghill 20

After last weekend's match against Hartlepool Athletic being postponed, when Athletic were unable to field a team, and unsure if the game will be rearranged, Seghill travelled down the A19 to The Old Friarage, to play Hartlepool BBOB, wondering if it may be their last league game of the season.

When the two sides met back at Welfare Park in September, it was Seghill who took a norrow victory, 17-14, after a very entertaining game.

Seghill made changes for the game, moving Dan Avis to fly half, and Liam Lonsdale back to the wing after a spell at centre, and it was the visitors who opened the scoring with an early penalty by Jake Armstrong.

Hartlepool hit back with a try before a Craig Wood try, converted by Armstrong completed the scoring for the first half.

Avis increased Seghill's lead after the break, before Hartlepool hit back with a converted try and a penalty to level the scores.

When scrum half Dan Slater's try regained the lead for Seghill, the possibility of an away win looked on the cards. But, perhaps with a long hard season drawing to a close, Seghill began to struggle, missing crucial tackles and allowing Hartlepool to regain the momentum.

Once a try put them level, the result was never in doubt as the home side eased ahead and recorded a comfortable 35 -20 victory, and cemented their position ahead of Seghill in the league. In fact Seghill slipped a position after Sedgefield's away win at Newton Aycliffe.

Seghill's only ever present this season, Nick Heard limped off at the end of the game after injuring his thigh making a tackle in the dying seconds, and could be doubtful if the remaining fixture is rearranged.
